Apalachicola "Redfishing" Report - Mar 20, 2000

The first day of Spring! The weather in Apalachicola has been typical for March, beautiful, sunny, warm & breezy one day, torrential rain the next. (In other words, some days the weather sucks for fishing).

We have had our heros this week, however. Robert Park was fishing with Capt. Ward on 3/17 when Ward spotted a school of about 1000 offshore Bull Reds, as large a school as he has ever seen. They cast into the school and hooked up on a 9lb Redfish and a 10-1/2lb Redfish which they fought for 10 minutes each. Ward stood on the poling platform and watched this 50 yard wide school as it passed for nearly 10 minutes. John Stanley's son had 15 shots today at Redfish on fly and brought one 7-1/2 pounder into the boat. (I told you Redfish on fly were a challenge!) John fished off of Capt. Nathan's boat and caught 1 Striped Bass and 4 Redfish.

Nathan is keeping an eye on the Pompano action at the cut - its still going on! Guides fishing St. Joe Bay report things heating up there too.

Our Bayfishing guide, Capt. Chad Zingarelli has had a few productive days on the water this week as well. 3/15 Pat Hickman's family were catching 18 to 20" Trout, and today the Cliff Martin family from Lookout Mountain Georgia caught lots of Redfish, Sheepshead and Black Drum. Plus they had a beautiful, sunny day to do it in.

Everglades Update - The Robinson Brothers have caught (and released) all of the Snook in the Everglades National Park. Actually, they have had a fantastic 3-1/2 weeks and are now ready to get back to Apalach. We are already planning next year's trip.
