2010 Fishing Planner - Jan 25, 2010

So here we are, nearing the end of January 2010 and the cold and the snow are already starting to get to our neighbors to the north. Back in the days when I lived in states where I had to shovel, scrape, de-ice and shiver in my long johns, I could usually hold out until about the end of February before wanting to run away to warmer climes. This winter we started hearing from some of y'all before Christmas! So in answer to the oft asked question - "Do you have anybody to take me fishing on March or April or July such and such" I say a resounding YES! Come on Down! However, if you are beginning to make your spring break plans, don't leave setting up that fishing trip with your favorite captain til the last minute.

The other question I'm hearing often is "How's the fishing been in Apalachicola?". Ummm, weellll, let me think of the most politically correct way to answer that. Unlike some of the more southern areas of the great state of Florida, the inshore species of fish that reside here are pretty cold hardy, and we have had some pretty darn cold weather so far. Redfish are caught here year round and so are speckled trout and several other varieties of shallow water fish, especially on days like this past Friday that are warm & mild & sunny. And on days that conditions aren't the best, the fish are actually out there some where, it's just the people to try to catch them that are missing in the equation, if you catch my drift. Maybe it's my selling ability? We are actually getting a bit of foot traffic here in the office downtown - thank you to all of our snow birds who winter-over here! Love to have you stop in & visit!

What's Biting on the Forgotten Coast?

FEBRUARY -Spanish Mackerel should be moving in as the water warms up a bit. Look for birds diving on bait balls - the Spanish will be torpedoing through them as well. MARCH - The return of the Pompano! Mid month is historically when we start seeing the pomps off the front beaches and off the rocks at the cut. Watch for Capt. Nathan Donahoe's Pompano Prediction! APRIL - Everything but Tarpon! Reds, Trout, Sheepshead, Flounder, Jack Crevalle, Black Drum, etc., etc., etc.,

After all this talk of cold weather, are you ready to head for the Keys and catch some fish? It's a great tonic for those wintertime blahs and may even be a cure for the "rheumatiz". Tommy is basically your purist Permit man but he has been known to cast at a few Bones & Barracuda too. Chris might occasionally get distracted by Tarpon, as he runs across them and he has a natural affinity for the silver kings. Tommy & Chris still have some February, March & April days available in the Lower Keys as follows: February Tommy - 2/11-2/14, 2/19 & 2/20 Chris - 2/20 & 2/21, 2/28 March - Tommy - 3/5-3/7,3/12-3/14, 3/19-3/23 Chris - 3/11 & 3/28-3/30 April Tommy - 4/4 Chris - 4/5-4/11

Please contact me very soon if you are interested. And if you have already made your plans with us and paid your deposit but haven't yet received your confirmation letter - my bad! Now that it is finally warm enough to sit in my office (with 3 heaters going) I plan to get my rear in gear and send out those emails and letters post haste. I have to admit to being spoiled this summer when Nikki was here shouldering my administrative burden while I was more focused on our Real Estate Clients needs. Now that I'm flying solo again for a while it takes better organization.

Speaking of Real Estate - there are some great prices on homes and land in Apalach, on St. George Island and all the surrounding areas. If you want to check it out you can go visit our MLS at www.rafgc.com . And call or email if you have questions.
