It's Almost Fall - Aug 28, 2007
According to Capt. Tommy Holland, 2nd generation Bayfishing guide, we are headed into what promises to be a really good fall fishing season. The white shrimp are already in the bay - he castnetted about 20 lbs in his bait net this morning - and the speckled trout are pouring in. His party caught their limit in 20" trout this morning and had a 26.5 inch redfish on board. Last Saturday, Capt. Chris Robinson Flats fished with Doug Sprague & his dad. Dad caught about an 80 pound tarpon first thing, then they went on to hook up on about 50 redfish. Sweet!
Some people think that our tarpon season has already ended - not entirely true! Shaun Corbin caught his first tarpon on a flyrod on Monday that probably weighed 125 pounds in the Apalachicola River.
Just a few other details - we are now stocking a limited supply of Berkeley Gulps & Gold Spoons, in addition to some Jim Teeny Flylines here in the shop. We also have a couple of 21' Stiffy Graphite push-poles in stock. I'm getting ready to place an order with Stiffy so if you need a new push-pole and you're within driving distance of Apalachicola, the bigger the order the less freight cost per pole. Don't forget to pick up your Robinson Brothers Hat or T-shirt while you're here.
Tommy leaves for the Keys Sept. 10th and still has a couple of weekend trips for Permit & Bonefish open this Sept-Oct. Until then he's diving & spearfishing his you-know-what off. The rest of the guides will be Flats, Bay & Offshore fishing here this fall.
