Mid June Fishing Report - Jun 24, 2007
As of June 15th, we haven't had a big "Push" of fish of any particular variety, but most trips have been successful, especially offshore. Dr. Hobson Fulmer (our local veterinarian) and his family fish with Capt. Greg Fletcher a couple of times a year. On June 10th Hobson's daughter Jessie caught most of the snapper they boated but her brother Tyler managed to hook the biggest fish of the day. Hobson's eyes were on the King Mackerel that I'm sure were headed for his smoker. And Jerry Hall (Apalachicola Seafood Grill) well, he was just his usual smiling self. See Website Photo Gallery) Capt. Bruce Millender's bunch yesterday were "Hammering them" and turned an 8 hour trip into a 12 hour trip offshore. UPDATE! The Push has started!
Flats fishing guides have had anglers hunting tarpon all month, some have actually been successful as the photo above will prove, and Bay guides are coming in with their anglers limits of trout & redfish along with other species regularly. Mild overnight temperatures should soon give way to the heat of the summer, but you can still sleep with your window open some nights and it's aready half way through June!
July Forecast: Looking forward to Silver Kings cruising in larger numbers as it heats up and to the usual summertime mix of redfish, trout, mackerel, sheepshead, tripletail, jack crevalle and up to a dozen or more different types of fish in the bay. Summer is the time for Snapper & Grouper, Amberjack & Triggerfish Offshore. It's gonna be hot folks, so get your Bayfishing in early in the morning or in the evening until dark. There's nothing like the sunset over the Apalachicola Bay when viewed from the water!
Guide availability - After about the 18th of July we can accommodate at least 1 or 2 flats fishermen just about every day. Bayfishing trips are readily available but please give us 24 hours notice at least. Several of our guides are doing Shark fishing trips (Capt. Tommy Holland had an angler from Kentucky catch a 7 foot Tiger Shark recently) and we will be baitfishing for tarpon July-Sept.
Please note - The guides we book have experience on the local water, are trained and licensed to charter by the US Coast Guard and they have their Saltwater Guide permit, issued yearly by the State of Florida - which covers you when you are fishing on the guides boat. Local FWC officers routinely check guides (and private anglers) for safety equipment and their catch to make sure everything is in order.
