Redfishing Report - Sep 28, 2006

This week I have too many Redfish photos to choose from, so as you're reading this, I'll be scrambling to post them all to our website photo gallery, but I wanted to get this out to you first. Over the past week or so, anglers fishing with Tommy & Chris were catching more than a dozen Redfish (mostly on a fly rod) per day plus they were treated to Jack Crevalle blowing up on mullet schools and Tarpon swarming in masses of minnows. Chris had the experience of shrimp "showering" in front of him as he poled his skiff. (Don't get smart, there aren't little shrimp bath houses out on the flats or anything, they were just startled and jumping out of the water en masse to get out of the way) Things are looking very healthy for the start of our fall fishing season.

Lynn & Karen Dudley (I believe Karen is the new Dean of the FSU Business School in Tallahassee) fished with Tommy on the 23rd. They had such a good time they're trying to make arrangements to come back this coming weekend. Be sure to check out Karen's first redfish on a fly rod in the Photo Gallery. John H. Morrow & John C. Morrow, father & son attorneys from Birmingham who have both graced our fishing reports with their Photo-Op fish, flyfished fished with us last Friday - Sunday with positive Redfish results. Another angler new to our esteemed fishing client list is Carson Salyer from Nashville. Carson enjoyed his guided fly fishing trip with Tommy so much he even cleaned out the cooler when he left.

Locals Walter Armistead (Broker/Owner Suncoast Realty & Chris' father-in-law) and Brett Martina, hopefully the next generation of Robinson Brothers Flats fishing guides, will also grace our photo gallery. Check out Walter's 7 lb Redfish caught on a fly and Brett's 26 lb tripletail sight fished on extremely light spin tackle on 9/26.

Local events to attend......

Next weekend the St. George Island Merchants Assn. is sponsoring the First Annual Oyster Spat Festival, October 6, 7 & 8. At 7:00 pm Friday night Sunny Jim & Full Band and 7:00 pm Saturday night Jim Morris & Big Bamboo Band are playing plus there are free concerts during the day along with many activities such as a 5K race, a parade on Saturday, Kayak Race, Treasure Hunt, Miniature Golf and an On shore fishing tournament (with prizes!) Did I mention the Food? Check their website www.SGIMerchants.com/oysterspat for details & plan to attend if you can. Stop by the Pepsi booth and say hello to me & buy a drink to benefit the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce.

Before you hit the Oyster Spat Festival Saturday morning, stop by the Historic Apalachicola Community YARD SALE at 8:00 am on Saturday Oct. 7, 2006 in Downtown Apalachicola. Call the Chamber office for details 850-653-9419.

Tommy & Chris are offshore somewhere diving again today but Chris wanted me to ask "Where are all the Anglers?". With the price of gas dropping and the mild weather we've been experiencing, this could be the best time to fish here. If I could sing halfway decently, I'd break into song "Oh what a beautiful morning........". I just love this time of year.

C-ya soon I hope!
