Capt. Jason Weaver - Feb 22, 2006

This is Jason Weaver from Tallahassee Florida. He has fished out of Key West in February with Capt. Chris Robinson for the past 3 or 4 years now. This year he decided to try to catch a permit on a fly rod, instead of on a spinning rod with a live crab. Now he knows how difficult it actually is and why fly fishing anglers who brag about it have a darned good right to. This fish was caught on a crab the 3rd day of his trip, although he did have a fish on his fly line and now he is more totally hooked than ever. Just an aside, Jason Weaver has been fishing privately for years along the Forgotten Coast. I met him in the Apalachicola Orvis shop about 10 years ago (then Robinson & Sons Outfitters, now Forgotten Coast Outfitters) and have watched him become more and more enthused about fly fishing, helped him purchase some of his rods & reels, fished with him personally several times and encouraged him when he took the class to get his captains license. It took some red tape cutting and patience and determination, but he is now Capt. Jason Weaver of "Hear No Fish, See Fish". Jason is deaf, but with his cochlear implant, this trip with Chris he could hear him say "Tarpon! Tarpon!" Sweet words!

Chris is heading back to Apalachicola next week after fishing the Keys and before fishing the Everglades so he will be available to fish March 3 - 7 in home waters. And I'll be home just in time for Chili Cook-off on St. George Island March 4th. See you there!
