You can get here from there! - Jul 29, 2005

On Monday July 25th the repairs to Hwy 98 were completed and the road from Eastpoint to Carrabelle was officially opened. Those guys worked 15 hour days in 105 degree heat index to get the road rebuilt in such record time. A huge thanks to everybody for their efforts. ALSO - St. George Island is open to renters and day trippers; the beach is open - water at the public beach was gin clear on Tuesday and the beach is clean; the summer oyster bars tested out ok and several are open so that means Apalachicola oysters are back on the menu. The water in St. Joe Bay is clear and the scallops are healthy (and tasty!).

I'm not saying that everything is back to normal yet - there's still sand where it isn't supposed to be (and not where it IS supposed to be) but that is being remedied more quickly than I thought possible. Unfortunately for me & Tommy, all the "digging equipment" is tied up so our pool installation is a victim of the hurricane, but that's the least of anybodies worries.

Fishing-wise we are "tearing them up" and the weather has been grand. Chad & Jr. are reporting large catches of big fish in the bay. One day last week Jr's anglers caught their limit of big trout in an hour! Tarpon fishing has been good this week and Capt. Chris is convinced that next week the tides for tarpon are going to be some of the best of the season - we do have openings in our flats fishing schedule. Offshore, snapper fishing seems to be the ticket.

Anglers without children - please remember that with school starting earlier and earlier that availability for accommodations and fishing guides increases dramatically over the next couple weeks while the fishing itself remains at peak. I'll be standing by!
