The Truth to the Rumor - Sep 29, 2005
Wednesday I received the following comment via email "I heard the red tide had hit and fishing was lousy" and I just wanted to dispute the misconception that has been hitting the airwaves lately which has sadly had a negative impact on us and probably caused a few people to miss out on some excellent fishing. Yesterday in 5 hours time, Capt. Chris Robinson along with Capt. Nathan Donahoe and Heath Galloway caught 23 redfish (half were sight fished) in the 4 to 7 pound range and 15 trout between 17" and 22". Chris noted that the water is as clear as it gets, there's baitfish everywhere, the bay is healthy and the fishing has been as good as it could be. Yesterday morning Capt. Jr. Holland's angler caught a 30 lb red which he fought for over an hour plus they were catching fish every cast. The Harvey brothers also fished with Tommy on Wednesday - they caught and released redfish too numerous to even keep track of. Ralph Harvey just told me via telephone that they were not adversely affected by any conditions and he's sending me photos of his big redfish.
Our September fishing couldn't have been any better and contrary to popular belief, the red tide has NOT affected our fishing. It is the job of a professional fishing guide to know the best areas to fish and not subject his anglers to adverse conditions. We have numerous different areas to fish here (up to 120 miles of coastline and river systems) and while there have been some places that have been affected, it hasn't affected the fish we are fishing for and we have the resources to avoid those other areas. Please pass the word that the Apalachicola fishery is alive and well and please come fishing soon!
