Northwest Florida to the Florida Keys - Feb 7, 2005

Whenever I get an email from Trent Scofield asking for a fishing report, I know it's been too long since I last wrote. So Trent, how about a Keys trip? Kathy Jansen and her fiancé Grayson Shepard, both from Apalachicola, fished with Capt. Tommy in the Florida Keys last week. It was a long way from their original proposed ski trip to Colorado but I think just maybe they had a good time west of Key West. Especially when Kathy experienced "first cast" luck and yes she did land this fish herself. Tommy has been in south Florida since January 21st and except for tougher conditions this past weekend, it's been pretty good for fishing and diving these past 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, or rather Apalachicola, we've had everything from overnight temperatures in the 30's to nearly 70 and sunny after a string of cloudy/rainy/colder days. The warm sunny days have been good for fishing here. It's been a few years since I was home in February - I had forgotten how nice it can be, and I haven't even had to burn half of my firewood. However, I'm headed south to join Tommy as soon as I pass my real estate exam next week. Capt. Chad had a Bay trip Saturday - after a bit of searching they got into a mess of sheephead and other resident fish. Today he had his sweet wife Lisa take the afternoon off work to go fishing with him - it was such a beautiful day. An offshore trip on the Hattaras with Capt. Russell Lee on Saturday was cut a bit short due to some windy conditions but not before the Massingill brother's group hauled in 10 Grouper. (They were also extremely entertaining doing Karaoke at Harry A's.)

To those of you who are snowbound up north, I wholeheartedly sympathize and have a cure - COME FISHING IN FLORIDA! I'm available for consultation or weather reports. Hope to hear from you soon.
