August and September fishing report - Aug 18, 2004

I have a lot on my mind this time so I hope you are sitting down!

Thanks for all the calls and emails following last weeks brush with Hurricane Bonnie. We are extremely fortunate that the worst we got was a good grass watering. We had stronger winds the weekend before. St. George Island called for voluntary evacuations and some of our anglers decided not to ride it out. (But not all of them!) Offshore fishing last weekend was darn good. If this reaches any of our friends and clients in Hurricane Charleys path, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. As for the rest of us, if you can, please pick up the phone or go on line and donate to the victims of this disaster. (Stepping down from soapbox now)

Listen, do you hear that? That is the sound of the Forgotten Coast in September - quieter, calmer, no crowds, less traffic, just hot sunny days and progressively cooler evenings (hopefully). This is the time to take advantage of our normally slower paced lifestyle and to be able to hook up with your favorite fishing guide with no waiting. (Come fishing now!) Fall fishing here can be some of the best of the year. Weather wise it can be better and more consistent than the spring (and warmer) and if all goes well, it can continue from September through Thanksgiving and some years even until Christmas. If we could only control the weather&

This summer may possibly have been our best and most successful ever. The conditions remained mild & conducive to some excellent fishing. Tarpon showed up relatively early as we got a head start on a drier summer than last year. Redfishing is fantastic right now and has been pretty strong all summer long, and Seatrout over 5 pounds have recently been a regular occurrence. Capt. Chris is looking forward to hooking up on some Spanish Mackerel. Chad's still tripletailing, and he's open this weekend!

Flats Fishing - Good availability until October 1st. If you plan to do any light tackle or fly fishing from a flats skiff after September, please make arrangements ASAP.

Bay Fishing - Week day and Weekend openings in September, mostly weekdays only in October, but call to be sure. November weekends are available. GREAT fishing this time of year for a big mixed bag. Group trips are available.

Offshore Fishing - Everyone who fished the trips we booked Offshore reported having a great time and an even better catch "I am just glad I was not the one who had to clean all those fish. Think about going offshore in September or October if your favorite Flats or Bay guide is booked. Grouper, Snapper (open season until 11/1) and amberjack abound. Capt. Jack Teague may be fishing out of the Panacea area this fall" Call me to set up the trips. Check out his Keys website www.FinaticCharters.com.

And speaking of the Keys, Tommy & Chris both have January and February dates available. Jason will be scout-fishing this fall and may even be up to speed by February too. Tommy is booked to be fishing for Permit in October and November with clients, check with me for any openings in his schedule, or let me hook you up there with Capt. Jack.

Our NEW T-Shirts just arrived yesterday! Plain White pocket tee with our crossed rod logo in dark green on the back & on the pocket. Visor's and T-Shirts are each $20. As soon as I can get Tommy & Chris to hold still long enough to pose for a photo wearing them, I will post it to our online store.
