Happy St. Patrick's Day - Mar 17, 2004
It's another gorgeous spring day, teasing spring breakers on the beach and making the trout and redfish think it's already April. It's getting to be our favorite time of year with calm sunny days, that unique springtime blue sky and gentler evenings. Whether you are casting a fly, throwing lures with light spinning tackle, baiting a hook in the bay or dropping a line in deep water, chances you are going to reeling in something every cast - and it could be something different each time. We're getting excited!
Capt. Chad hooked up on a Pompano the other day, prompting a flurry of sand flea hunting and the beginning of the search of their favorite spots to begin catching the fish. Speckled trout fishing has been extraordinary the past couple weeks, according to Jr. and Chad and gets better every day. Jr. had one 4-angler party hook up on 160 fish in one day. Of course they only kept their limit. I spoke yesterday to a local offshore guide who has been doing very well recently trolling for Spanish Mackerel.
John and Martha Morrow from Birmingham fly-fished for Redfish the past weekend with Capt. Jason Rucker and caught ten of fifteen. Jason suggested that we have "Too Many" Redfish now (can that be?) and tells me that fishery is very strong as long as we don't have cold weather. The forecast looks good for Redfish.
Chris & Tommy are fishing in "The best place to be in South Florida this time of year" and seem pleased with the Snook-fishing opportunities this month in the 10,000 islands. Danny Wilson caught an 18 lb-er his first time out saltwater fly-fishing. Chris heads home in about a week and a half, Tommy arrives on April 3rd. They both have April dates available and will be raring to go as soon as they get home.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
