Before The Storm - Sep 25, 2002
What to catch on a fly when you're not fishing for tarpon or redfish? How about a 47 lb Black Drum on a 6 wt fly rod or a 38 lb on an 8 wt?
Well, we haven't been disappointed by the weather yet this month, it's just as we expected - Hot, Humid, Windy, etc. The fishing is good now but getting to the fish can sometimes be a challenge. So far the effects from any previous tropical weather have been more of an annoyance than destructive. We are already feeling the approach of (currently) Tropical Storm Isidore - some rain and wind as the feeder bands on the northern edge reach us. Hopefully it won't do much damage to us or our fishery. Anyone living on the coast must take every storm seriously & hurricane preparedness is addressed regularly. At least the Weather Channel people know how to pronounce Apalachicola! As the month winds down we look forward to a milder October with cooler and dryer air & getting into the REDS! Hope you can join us in the Bay or on the Flats.
Finally, the new Robinson Brothers Guide Service Logo caps arrived yesterday - LOTS of them! It took me all summer to source an acceptable replacement to the previous one that is no longer available. This new hat seems to fit more comfortably with a cloth band instead of the old leather one and a nice long brim. (Still Khaki with Green) I will be filling the back orders this week - sorry for the delay. Call me (or email) if you are having a hat attack or if you need a weather update!
