First Day of Summer - Jun 21, 2002

It's the first day of Summer, the sun is shining, the wind is blowing, whoops, there's a rain squall, now it's 85 degrees, now it's 95. Guess we should be used to it by now as this is typical summer weather. The good news is that there's nearly always someplace to find clear water and protected fishing. Don't forget what I always say about the weather channel.

We typically know July for tarpon fishing, and our Flats fishing guides will be heading out very early each morning in search of same. But don’t let the fear of overly large fish scare you off. Bayfishing anglers this month will be hooking up and fighting fish on the order of jack crevalle, redfish, bluefish, ladyfish, black drum, tarpon and sharks in addition to tasty fish like seatrout, mackerel, pompano, cobia, tripletail, sheepshead & flounder. Light spinning tackle and bait casting rigs can make a trip in the bay exciting and action packed and fun for Mom, Dad and the kids too.

If you were eagerly awaiting my email expecting to read a tarpon fishing report, you are going to be disappointed, as I am under a gag order regarding specifics. (call me!) Several of our regular Flyfishing anglers have not only had their eyes opened to the possibilities but have recently bested personal records. Tommy insists that the best fishing is in the worst weather. Plug fishermen have enjoyed much success as well. Capt. Chad recently had an angler hook up on his first cast of the morning’s Bayfishing trip.

Congratulations to Capt. Adam Teat and Crew for placing first in the masters division of the Big Bend Classic Fishing tournament which took place over Fathers Day weekend. Their 42 pound Grouper and 40 pound Amberjack were first place fish, and a 32 pound Wahoo helped them with their win. Capt. Teat is currently fishing from a much larger boat and is as excited by bottom fishing for Grouper as he is trolling for Dolphin.

If you have fished with us in the past few months and are interested in the same days next year, please be sure to speak up as you have first dibs on those days. (July & August dates are still available, Sept. and October have already started booking) July Forecast: HOT! Bayfishing is great early & late. Check our photo gallery for new photos.
