End of August.... - Aug 24, 2001

It looks like we’ve gotten a preview of fall fishing the past week. Overnight temperatures seem a bit lower than normal for the end of August but it still gets into the upper 90’s in the afternoon. Strange water temperatures too, anywhere from 76 in the morning to 94 in the afternoon. The effect of this seems to be the lack of tarpon in any appreciable numbers - predictably unpredictable! Do you think its over? The good news is that fall inshore fishing means Redfish, Trout, Tripletail, Jack Crevalle, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish, Flounder and a few Pompano & Cobia.

Ken Arnold & Kenny Cox fished with Chris last Friday - you can see from the photo that they didn’t have a perfectly sunny day but Kenny Cox DID manage to capture his first Redfish! Marsha & Jeff Baker spent 3 days this week with Tommy on the flats sight fishing everything from Reds & Spanish Mackerel to Ladyfish & Bluefish. Every afternoon Tommy came in from fishing to tell me what a good fishing trip Marsha was having. I wonder what Jeff was doing?

Tommy & I are headed to Montana the last 2 weeks of September (anybody know a short route?) for a little hunting break between "Seasons" but he’ll be fishing up until the minute we leave in case you can break away in the next couple of weeks. This will be a working vacation for me as I’ll be lugging my laptop and my cell phone along - gotta stay connected! Chris will also be here holding down the fort in case of any "fishing emergencies" so feel free to call or email to book your September, October & November trips.

Next year’s fishing calendar is beginning to take shape - thanks for helping me with your requests. The Everglades trips are shaping up - Tommy will be there until April 15th next year. I tried to touch base with everyone who fished with us this year - please let me know if I forgot anyone.

Have a safe & happy Labor Day Weekend!
